• Employer:National Center for Atmospheric Research
  • When:Summer 2008 - Spring 2009
  • What:Worked in a team of three to build an online interface through which scientists review and submit simulations modeling the interior of stars, a study known as Asteroseismology. We needed a system that would allow for rapid prototyping and easy maintenance and would work smoothly with a Python computational back-end. We ended up picking the Django application framework which was a delight to work with.
The project has a mixed audience of a small group of scientists as registered users and a larger group of public and institutional users. We had to cater to the specific needs of our small registered user group, as well as demonstrating the viability of short run, small budget small team science gateways using open source frameworks.
  • Tasks:Graphic design, identity & logo design, user interface, front-end development, user experience design.
  • Tools:Django web-application framework, Python programing language, Adobe Creative Suite, Eclipse IDE, Tortoise SVN, Firebug.
